Verizon is preparing for the iPhone Launch on Feb 3rd
Various Rumor sites have pointed out that Verizon Wireless is organizing a media event for January 11th, and since they didn’t announce the long awaited iPhone during CES (Consumer Electronics Show), this must be the official iPhone launch announcement.
CDMA or LTE
During CES, Verizon has demoed a few LTE ready handsets to be used on their new 4G Network which is a shift from their tradition CDMA technology. Traditionally in the US market, the big carriers like Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology while AT&T and T-Mobile are on the GSM side which is also used by pretty much the rest of the world. Now with 4G technology choice, Verizon and AT&T will be using the compatible LTE technology and Sprint is now building their 4G based off of WiMAX which is incompatible. So, if Apple decides to go with Verizon or AT&T, which are the two largest carriers in the US, LTE will certainly be the only choice for iPhone 5, and it will also allow Apple to maintain the single iPhone design.
Apple is preparing for the Verizon Launch
Apple retail store employees also have rumored that the store has blocked off employee vacation time for the month of February. This also signals that there is a major product launch coming before that for which Apple Retail needs to be prepared.
iPhone 4 CDMA?
If the new iPhone is going to be launched in February of this year on Verizon Wireless, it must be that Apple has a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 the works. Verizon is spending a lot of money building up their 4G network in the large metropolitan areas around the country but it’s not ready for prime time adaptation yet. What Verizon certainly doesn’t want is a sudden influx of AT&T users coming over and crashing their network.
So, is there going to be another version of the iPhone 4? Is Apple willing to introduce a different hardware design in the middle of the current life cycle of iPhone 4? or Will we see the announcement of iPhone 4.5 or 5?
AT&T in preparation for the Verizon iPhone Launch
AT&T has just dropped the price of iPhone 3GS with contract to $49.99. Is AT&T desperate to try to keep their current subscriber base? or, Will they shift their focus more toward the android phones?
Other Carriers?
Let’s say there is going to a CDMA iPhone coming into play next month. If there isn’t a Verizon exclusivity deal like Apple had with AT&T, what does it mean for other second tier CDMA wireless carriers? Will we start seeing iPhone on Cricket? StraghtTalk? I bet Walmart will also be interested in that deal.
