Upgrading production value: Canon Vixia HF20 Camcorder Unboxing

I had been wanting a good camcorder for a while.  Starting to document my unboxing experiences and publish them online provided the perfect excuse to pick up this Canon Vixia HF20 Camcorder from Amazon.  When I ordered this camera from Amazon, it came with an 8 GB memory card promotion which I promptly put in the camera to add to the built-in 32GB.

I was deciding between the HF20 and the HFs10.  The sensor on the HFs10 makes it slightly larger.  In my research about which to get, I came to the conclusion that the camera you use will be the camera you can carry with you, so I decided on the smaller HF20.

The Canon Vixia HF20 records in 1920 by 1080, the standard HD recording definition.  It supports 30p, but records in 60i format.  I don’t know yet what that means, because I thought progressive and interlace were different.

On with the Unboxing…

The box isn’t sealed.  Instead, it is just folded closed.  Inside is a record of purchase, an application disk, and a really thick manual in English, French, and Spanish that I’ll never read.  Standard cables are included. A small grey remote is included with battery as well.

The camera itself comes wrapped in bubble wrap.  The HF20 is small and light and extremely glossy.   I’m pretty impressed by the gloss.  Wasn’t expecting that in a camera.  Check it out in the video.  Even next to my small hands, it looks small.

The HF20 has an integrated lens cap, and built in 32GB of memory. The camera includes useful features for low light and tri-pod connectors.  The screen rotates easily.  The ports are next to the battery in the back, including HDMI and mini-USB.  When you watch my video, you can see where all of these features are and more.

I really enjoy unboxing gadgets and this will be my dedicated camcorder until I upgrade again.
