Unboxing Verizon’s new Water Resistant Rugged Casio G’zOne Commando Phone

Today I am unboxing a Verizon 3G Android device from Casio.

This phone is for an outdoorsy type who likes technology because the phone comes preloaded with several apps that would be great in the wilderness (i.e. compass, stargazer).  Also, it comes pre-equipped with a rubberized case so no need to shell out an extra $20-$60 to protect it from the elements.  Also, this phone is Adobe Flash enabled (take that, iPhone!), and has WiFi capabilities for when you’re in civilization.

The Box contains

  • the phone
  • Battery
  • Battery Cover
  • Miscro SD Card pre installed
  • Micro USB charger
  • Paperwork

The Casio G’zOne Commando phone is flashy and rugged, with a large screen, rubberized black front and back case, and a metallic red line running down the center front.  The rubberized case is raised above the screen – or perhaps I should say – the screen is depressed from the case, so that if you put the phone down on its face, the screen doesn’t touch the surface.  The sides are metal, with headphone jack, micro USB jack on one side, nothing on bottom, and power and volume rocker on the left side.

The Battery is a Casio battery and fits occupies a large area behind the screen.

The Battery Cover is lined with an O-ring to keep out water and states that the phone is water resistant when it is correctly installed.

The Micro SD Card pre installed is an 8Gb SanDisk.  It is small and fragile and located behind battery compartment, sandwiched between the battery and the screen.

The Micro USB charger seems really standard to me.

Paperwork is not my strong suit.  It’s there. Read it if you’re interested!

In summary, with no case needed, this water resistant and rugged Verizon Android phone might work for you if you are an outdoorsy person.  Check out the Casio G’zOne Commando and let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Super Gadget Guy
