I unboxed the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play phone about a week ago. It is a Verizon phone that you can pick up in Verizon phone stores.
This phone is a lot of fun, as it is designed to be. The cover slides out to become a gaming device. It is fantastic in terms of game control. The analog control even works well. In my experience, it falls between the Sony PS3 Dual-Shock Controller and the touch screen because you actually can control your game from the distance your finger is on the control away from the metal dot. It is really impressive. The buttons on either side on the controller seem to be straight from or very similar to the Playstation Portable.
This device is not short games. You can download a lot of Android games that are optimized for the Xperia Play from the Sony store.
If you’re worried that this is designed for kids hands, don’t be. My coworker who has huge hands has no problem playing games on Xperia.
If you’re wondering about the graphics, I think they are pretty good. Certainly, these are the best graphics I’ve seen on an android device.
Audio quality is also good. So, overall, as a gaming device, this phone is pretty awesome.
There is more good to say about it though. Battery life seems good too.
My complaints with this phone are few. My first complaint about this device is the screen. The screen is not as bright as I would like it to be. Also, there is no physical keyboard. The touchscreen keyboard/ swipe keyboard works fine. I just wish there was a way to slide out the top, maybe in a different direction and have a physical keyboard.
So, if you like to play a lot of games on the android market, I think this is a great phone to get. Battery life is good and phone speed is fast. I didn’t notice any slowdowns and browsing speed was good.
I like this phone so much that if I didn’t have an iPhone, I would totally get this phone because I play a lot of games and I think this is a great phone to get.
On the gaming front, I’m pretty certain that this is the best gaming phone out there. From the control to the graphics and the sound, I think this is a great phone. So, if you did not get a PSP Go or if you’re looking for a phone and gaming device combination or you want to save money not getting the $250 3DS, check out this phone.
Thanks.
