I need your help! My office/gaming room is an inefficient mess. I wonder if you have had this problem and come up with some solutions, or maybe you just have some ideas to help me out. I need to improve my office so that I can work in here and so that it will be less of a jumble of things.
I have posted a video of my office as it is now on YouTube, but to give you some idea of the chaos I work in, I will describe some of the major problems with the room as it is now.
Although this is the place where I do most of my work and play my video games, the desk is a jumble of gadgets, cords, and disks. I have a workstation desk I bought at Staples a few years ago. The desk has a keyboard tray, and what I guess would be called a hutch on top. The hutch has 2 levels of shelves, the top level altered by me, but more about that in a bit.
I do keep the keyboard in the keyboard tray, but on the desk surface, I’ve got my laptop, gaming controllers, headphones, mouse, and various other things. Under the desk, in addition to a massive power strip, is my gaming PC that I built. I’ve got a 24 inch Asus monitor, very old microsoft speakers, and a webcam. The 24 inch monitor didn’t fit in the desk as it was when I purchased it, so I took a saw to the upper level of shelves on it, which looks rather tacky to me whenever I notice it (which is too often), but was a must in order to use this desk. My workstation desk chair is a basic black office chair I picked up at Costco for about $100. It is not terrible, but it also is not great.
On the adjoining wall, I have a table from Costco which I use to fix stuff and upgrade stuff because it is right by the window so it gets a lot of light. In front of it, I’ve got my wife’s chair, also from Costco, but not as good as the one I use. Under is another power strip with a few charging items: batteries, dremel.
Continuing around the room, there is a tall narrow IKEA cabinet, a small bookshelf that is overflowing, a magazine stand I use as a charging station for more items, a floor lamp, and a beanbag chair.
Without question, this room has a lot to be desired.
I hope you have some ideas for me!
Thanks for your suggestions.
