This is QNAP’s Flagship Product. I think it is one of the best home office NAS systems on paper. My current NAS is an older NETGEAR ReadyNAS 4-bay which has all the storage I want but doesn’t have the performance I want. On paper, QNAP NAS TS-809 Pro has lots of both.
I couldn’t find a lot on line about the actual performance of this product but I did some serious specs comparisons with NAS systems from NetGear, QNAP, and Synology. I believe this one has superior storage and performance for my needs.
QNAP NAS TS-809 Pro is
- super fast (reported 126.22MB/sec read and 111MB write)
- supports 8 Hard Drives (3.5 inch or 2.5 inch)
- can select RAID configuration from the menu, no computer needed.
- Very well built with all-steel construction
Lots of features.
- Drive bays clearly labeled by number with sticker on top identifying each bay by number. It’s a good thing they are clearly labeled because in a RAID array, if you have a drive failure and pull the wrong drive, you kill the array.
- 2 fans in the back
- 4 usb ports
- 2 ethernet ports
- 2 serial ports one reserve and one diagnostic, both sealed. (If you do open them, you void the warranty)
- LCD screen in front with select/enter button so can set up unit without computer
- LED status for all drives and alarm buzzer
- 250Watt power supply
Unboxing
The NAS ships in a very heavy box, even once the 8.1kg (40 lb) NAS is removed.
The paperwork is in a smaller brown box inside the NAS box and includes
- instructions in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean,
- a CD (PC),
- a quick installation guide in same 4 languages.
Also in the brown box
- Power Cord (no brick)
- 2 ethernet cords (cat-5e)
- Hard drive Tray keys
- Black screws
- Silver screws
- Hard drive trays support for both 3.5″ and 2.5″ SATA drives
Drive Installation
In my video, you can see how easy it is to pop the bays and install a drive.
My Leap of Faith
I really took a Leap of faith because I couldn’t find a lot of information about QNAP NAS TS-809 Pro before I ordered it. If you would prefer to know more, just let me know. So, if you have any questions about this product or its performance, please post.
