Hardware Updates from Apple’s WWDC 2012: MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Today is June 11, 2012, the day Apple comes out to taut its new offerings at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference 2012 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

The WWDC 2012 main event, Tim Cook’s keynote address, clocked in at just under two hours of announcements and cheers.  He spoke about a number of things, including the updated line-up of Apple MacBook notebooks…

New Apple Hardware WWDC Announcements

Apple has updated their MacBook Air and MacBook Pro line-ups and introduced a very impressive MacBook Pro with Retina display as the new flagship MacBook.

The New Airs

Both 11” and 13” will be $100 cheaper than the first generation but loaded with more inside.  They will have Ivy Bridge CPU up to 2.0 GHz, 60% faster graphics, up to 8 GB memory, 1600 MHz, up to 512 GB flash storage, USB 3, but no retina display.

The New MacBook Pros

The 13” and 15” will hold at the same pricing but with better guts.  They have been updated also to Ivy Bridge, CPU up to 2.7 GHz, 60% faster graphics,  up to 8 GB memory, GPU now GeForce GT 650M, USB 3, but no retina display.

New to the line-up: an ultra thin MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Apple is introducing a NEW [amazon_link id="B0074721BI" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]MacBook Pro line-up WITH Retina Display[/amazon_link].  This computer is only 0.71 inches thick.  It is almost as thin as a MacBook Air and only 4.46 pounds.  2800×1800 pixels on 15 screen, making it the highest resolution notebook.  Starting at $2200

Worth Getting?

Absolutely.  The new (now cheaper) Air is an excellent choice for users who use a lot of network applications and few peripherals.  If you follow my blog, you know my wife has a [amazon_link id="B005CWIRPG" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]MacBook Air (first generation) [/amazon_link] and absolutely loves it.  She uses it for work and personal stuff and can take it everywhere.  It works perfectly, is wonderfully fast, and has given us no problems.  If you need to have CD or DVD capability with your air, you’ll need to get a separate drive, and Apple’s [amazon_link id="B0048606UG" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]MacBook Air Superdrive[/amazon_link] is a sleek and effective worker.

The New MacBook Pro will be an excellent all-around computer, and a nice update to the line.

The gem is the thin [amazon_link id="B0074721BI" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]MacBook Pro with Retina Display[/amazon_link].  This is the flagship ultra lapbook people have been waiting for.  I will unbox a MacBook Pro with Retina display as soon as I can and report to you here about it.  If you get one sooner, please post your thoughts!

Thanks,

Super Gadget Guy
