Father’s Day 2012 — Gadgets for Every Price Point

Do you need help pinning down the perfect Father’s Day gift?

Father’s Day is just around the corner and an opportunity to get a great gift for yourself or your partner. With the focus on dads, many gadgets are discounted this time of year so you can also get those great Father’s Day gifts at bargain prices.

Price points vary though, so what follows are some recommendations at different price points.    I have reviewed many of these items on my YouTube Supergadgetguy page.

Father’s Day Gifts Under $50

Otter Box makes rugged cases for several smart phones.  The [amazon_link id="B004N7EY5S" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Otter Box Defender [/amazon_link] is a useful and thoughtful economical gift for a busy dad.

Video Games and Gaming Accessories such as [amazon_link id="B002I0HJZO" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Battlefield 3[/amazon_link] and [amazon_link id="B002GJRQRS" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]wireless PS3 Controllers[/amazon_link] usually are priced close to $50.

If even that is too rich for you, consider getting a solid writing pencil.  When I need a pencil, I reach for [amazon_link id="B000TXV2QY" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]my Pentel 0.9 lead drafting pencil[/amazon_link] every time.  It is well balanced and writing is fluid with it.  It’s not an expensive gift but it has changed writing for me in a good way. Highly recommend!

This gadget is not digital, however a BBQ king can grill up food much more efficiently with a good Chimney Starter.  I’ll be using my [amazon_link id="B000WEOQV8" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter[/amazon_link] to get some ribs started for my father.

$50-$100

Perhaps you’ve noticed the knife I use for unboxing videos. It is the [amazon_link id="B0009VCA1M" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Kershaw Ken Onion Tactical Blur Folding Knife[/amazon_link].  It’s an excellent slim device that I’ve used many times in the short time I’ve had it.  Highly recommend it (or another Kershaw Ken Onion, of which there are several, such as the [amazon_link id="B004TB6RTE" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Black Blur[/amazon_link], [amazon_link id="B004DS1XF6" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Leek[/amazon_link], & [amazon_link id="B0009VC9P4" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Black Out[/amazon_link])

$100-$500

[amazon_link id="B0038JE07O" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Boxee Box[/amazon_link] is a great way to access your digital entertainment through your television.  It also comes with a user-friendly remote and operating system.

The Logitech Harmony remotes can make your entertainment system so much more user friendly.  I [amazon_link id="B001M5U5AC" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]highly recommend the 1100 Universal Remote with Color Touch Screen[/amazon_link].  It makes up for the steep cost by doing the job of your 5 remotes.

[amazon_link id="B003NSBKT6" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Shure Earphones[/amazon_link] are quality earbuds that deliver such excellent sound quality that they are used by professionals.  The steep price is worthwhile for a person who listens to the details.

[amazon_link id="B005IKZU8O" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Playstation VITA [/amazon_link] is a great handheld gaming unit.  It is not just for kids, but the kid in the Father will appreciate it.

$1000 and above

I highly recommend the [amazon_link id="B005IKZU8O" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Sony NEX-7[/amazon_link].  Arguably the best camera of its size with many great features that any Father can use to document his growing family.

Of course, what dad doesn’t want to watch a game or a movie on an ultra flat ultra clear display?  Top of my wish list for new TV is the [amazon_link id="B0074FGTJA" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Samsung UN60800[/amazon_link].  This TV has everything, from ultra slim, to voice control, to being 3d ready.

All my best to you and your families this Father’s Day!

Thanks,

Super Gadget Guy

Thanks for the tips on gifts for Father’s Day! My dad is a real tech guy, so I’m looking for something he will like a lot. Last year, I bought my dad a Tailgater from Dish and from what I’ve seen, he loves it. He uses it while he’s camping, tailgating, and even at our family barbeques. Just last week, we were at the park for my aunt’s birthday, and he used the Tailgater to show the Rockies game in HD on a TV he brought. As soon as I was off of work at Dish, I sped over because I wasn’t going to miss my dad’s cooking or the game. It was cool seeing the Rockies win! His TV is pretty old, so maybe I could look at getting him an upgrade! We shall see!
