Time to get a new black iPhone 4
Although she had been waiting a long time for the white iPhone, my wife had had enough of not being able to make or receive phone calls with her ATT iPhone 3G, so we went to the Verizon phone to pick her up this iPhone 4. I was still on an iPhone 3GS because I had a iPhone 3GS 32GB because I was waiting for the Thunderbolt to come out so I could try it, so this meant she would be skipping ahead of me with phone technology, but I too had had it waiting for her 3G to run maps and at the other end of numerous dropped calls.
Unboxing
The box for the black 32GB iPhone 4 from Verizon is compact and well designed with little empty space. I don’t see the Verizon logo on the box, even though I know there are slight differences between the Verizon iPhone 4 and the AT&T iPhone 4.
The phone is right on top under the cover, protected by cover film on both sides. Under the phone tray is a small instruction manual and Apple stickers. Below the papers are the accessory bundle, which includes the wall plug for charging, the charging USB cable, and the Apple earbuds.
Comparing
The new iPhone 4 is a little taller and thinner than the iPhone 3g. Buttons are placed pretty much in the same places, with design varying slightly. Since this phone is CDMA, there is no SIM card, so there is no SIM card tray as there was on the iPhone 3G. Nice to see the same layout for the useful side rockers for mute and un-mute right above volume.
“First” Boot Up
Although the phone had been opened and turned on in the store, my first boot up with the phone shows a 69% pre-charge. The phone is smooth and very responsive compared to my wife’s 3G and even my 3GS.
