I got this Cuisinart Automatic Grind and Brew Thermal 10 cup Coffeemaker to replace my Saeco Odea automatic espresso maker. This machine also grinds beans right before brewing, but it does have a grind-off feature, so, unlike the Saeco, in which the grinder was the only route to making coffee/espresso, this machine can work without the grinder. Although I know that grinders in coffee makers are often not as good as stand-alone models, I got this combined grind-and-brew model to save on counter space and on steps when making coffee. Also, it has a timer and a thermal carafe. With these features, I can set it at night and, when I’m running in the morning, I don’t have to worry that I’ve left it on because it turns itself off after brewing the coffee and the thermal carafe supposedly keeps the coffee warm for a couple hours.
Looking at the box, the machine is pretty attractive, a combination of brushed stainless or aluminum and black plastic. I’m also interested in the thermal carafe, because I’ve had glass carafes in the past.
This machine uses No 4 basket paper filters but also includes a gold filter for the grinds. There is also a charcoal filter included for the water trough. The grinder is removable and pretty simple. I’m hoping, since it’s removable, that if it does break, it will be easy to replace (unlike my Saeco grinder). The coffee grinds area is also removable and appears easy to clean.
The thermal carafe has thick walls that I hope will perform as advertised. I notice that the top does need some attention to screw it on correctly. Basically, you have to look for the guide lines and line them up. Some people on line have commented that they have trouble closing the carafe correctly. Maybe this happens because they can’t see the guide lines.
All in all, Cuisinart Coffeemaker DGB-650 is an attractive grind-and-brew coffeemaker. I’ll let you know what I think of it.
Thanks,
